Citrusy and Floral Notes:

Pure bergamot essential oil offers a captivating fragrance profile characterized by its citrusy and floral notes. It exudes a fresh, slightly spicy aroma with hints of sweetness, reminiscent of a sunny orchard. The scent of bergamot uplifts the spirit, promoting relaxation and a sense of well-being, while also possessing calming and balancing properties for the mind.

The Bright Sweet Nature Of Bergamot Essential Oil

A hybrid borne from a bitter orange and lemon, bergamot is unique in more ways than one. The disparity between its sourness in taste and aromatic scent only deepens the mysterious character of this fragrance. The bright, sweet and refreshing nature of this inedible fruit was first recognized as a separate variety of citrus in the 17th century. It stands apart from other essential oils because it is extracted via cold air compression rather than steam. A major ingredient in many colognes, perfumes and scented soaps, it is renowned as the singular ingredient responsible for the classic aroma and flavor of Earl Grey tea.

Where Does Bergamot Come From?

Italian in origin, bergamot was well known in ancient Rome where its juice was used to treat malaria and its oils served both as an antiseptic and in cuisine. Ancient Greeks consumed unripe bergamot fruits as sweet meats either as dessert or with coffee. Today, it is largely cultivated in the sunny, mountainous region of Calabria, which is the world’s largest producer of bergamot.

What Does Bergamot Smell Like?

This fragrance is distinctly citrus and fresh. Some claim its aroma is close to that of a sweet orange enhanced by an added zing of spice and fresh fruit. Others describe it more as sweet, light orange peel nuanced by floral aspects. For some, bergamot can be considered a bit too potent and from his reason is often blended with other aspects such as dry cedar wood, creamy sandalwood, rich, narcotic ylang-ylang, erotic musk, light, bitter neroli and sugary fresh orange blossom. Bergamot is the perfect vehicle to a bright and sunny olfactory journey.

What Are The Most Common Uses of Bergamot Oil?

Popular in aromatherapy, bergamot uplifts the spirit and enhances positive thinking. Extremely fragrant, it is found in many personal care products including: soaps, colognes and perfumes. The many chemical properties make it ideal for reducing stress and anxiety levels and it is also as an effective insect repellent.

Is Bergamot Safe For Use Around Pets?

Although bergamot oil is safe for use in a diffuser, in the case of pets, it is best to consult with a veterinarian before using any essential oil in the home. Some essential oils should never be used around dogs even in small quantities.

Why Does Bergamot Work Well In A Diffuser?

When inhaled, bergamot uniquely triggers the release of dopamine and serotonin in the brain, which are the specific hormones that regulate mood. Its delicate, citrusy character soothes the nerves and helps to lower blood pressure.
