What Is Orange Essential Oil?

The cells within the rind of an orange fruit are the source of orange essential oil. Unlike others, it is most often extracted by a process known as centrifugation, which produces a cold-pressed oil. The oil is extracted from the rind, the blossoms are found in orange water, tea, perfume and orange blossom honey, the leaves are used for teas and the bark for making grilling blocks and manicure tools.

The exact origins of sweet orange essential oil are unknown, but many historians believe that they may lie in southwestern of China and the Himalayas. Technically known as Citrus sinensis, this fruit is not known to grow wild anywhere in the world and is a hybrid of the pomelo and mandarin. This family of fruit includes: Valencia oranges, blood oranges and navel varieties. Once harvested, the fruits do not continues tor open as many other fruits do and they require attentive care in order to obtain their maximum essential oil yield. The process is done either manually or mechanically, the latter being the most often employed.

What Does It Smell Like?

The aromatic profile of orange essential oil is very much like orange peel but it is much sweeter and thicker. Cheerful and invigorating, it portends summer and all of the warmth and vibrance of Mother’s Nature’s boundless creations. The fragrance is just sweet enough with a hint of sourness, that results in a fragrant cloud of harmony, relaxation and temporary respite from the troubled world of these times.
